EVERYTHING IS BETTER
WITH PORCINI AND TRUFFLES
For the first two weeks you will take your cultural competency requirement (MGMT 390) with a local instructor. The following two weeks will be with Dr. John Burr, a former global marketing and strategy consultant, for Strategic Management (MGMT 352). You'll get to learn why Dr. Burr speaks with his hands even though he's only 25% Italian.
You will live like a local. Each weekday we will meet at school from 9-12 (typical). The second half of the day you will have free to explore on your own or with a local tour guide. There is a group on-site to help with arrangements. Much of what you need to learn in strategy, can be taught on foot, walking around the city while talking about local businesses. I'll do my best to maximize the number of company visits and learning that is done in the field, as this is often more impactful in the learning process

Personal Note from Dr. Burr:
I have heard people say they are nervous about international travel when they don't speak the language. Please do not be apprehensive. I have worked in 29 countries and only speak English. I would encourage you to get the full experience and travel someplace that is different than the US; that is what Study Abroad is all about. Florence is a great blend of smaller city & old world culture. If you are going international, go international. Big cities are all pretty similar and it is often not what is in the city that is interesting, but what is just outside.
